DEAN GIBSON

Dean Gibson is an Aboriginal filmmaker with more than 10 years experience in creating, writing, directing, editing and producing.  His work has screened on ABC3, ABC1, SBS and NITV and includes kids’ television, documentary and drama.  He established Bacon Factory Films in 2013.

Some of his more significant broadcast credits include directing Sesame Street’s film Five Kangaroos, featuring Jessica Mauboy. A War of Hope;  a feature documentary for NITV. Handball Heroes, a series the he created and co-directed for ABC3. From the Ashes;  a 30min documentary for ABC1. He has directed and executive produced more than a dozen short documentaries screen on NITV over the past year, as part of the “Our Stories, Our Way, Every Day” series.

Dean is currently working on Wik Vs Queensland, a feature length documentary for NITV/SBS and supported by Screen Australia and Screen Queensland. It’s a retrospective archive based film looking back at the turbulent Australian political period when the Wik people from Cape York Peninsula travelled to the High Court of Australia and won shared access to their traditional lands in 1996.

In a joint initiative between Screen Queensland and Screen Producers Australia Dean has been selected through the Indigenous Ones To Watch Program.
