MARIA TRAN

FILMMAKER / ACTOR - AU

Maria is a filmmaker, actor and community facilitator and has worked in the Australian film and television industry for the last ten years in various capacities. In 2012 Maria worked for Screen NSW’s Development and Production Unit as a producer placement and was NSW State Champion at the 2011 National Film Pitching Competition. Prior to this, she had produced ABC/ JTV micro series “Downtown Rumble” and in 2012 was employed as a researcher and producer’s assistant for SBS TV documentary “Once Upon A Time In Cabramatta”. She has directed award-winning short “Happy Dent” and produced action Kung Fu comedy movie “Maximum Choppage”. Her current mockumentary short “Hot Bread Shop” was officially selected for the 2011 Colourfest Film Festival. In Jan 2013, she played a lead female assassin in Hollywood legend; Roger Corman’s upcoming action film in China “Fist of the Dragon”. In 2013, Maria produced Australia’s first Vietnamese TV series “Change of Our Lives” which is a partnership with Cancer Council and ICE for the Vietnamese community. In early 2014, Maria was working on ABC’s TV series Maximum Choppage as an Associate Producer, stunt double and extras casting coordinator. She has recently finished working on another ABC1 documentary by academy award nominee David Bradbury’s “Battle of Balmoral” and finished producing China co-pro “Take Me to the End of the Earth” and awaiting the release of Vietnamese action movie “Truy Sat | Tracer” in both Vietnam and Australian cinemas in May, 2016. In her spare time, she teaches at guerrilla filmmaking, screen acting and fight choreography/ stage combat at AFTRS as well as her own weekly classes of Screen Action Fight Essentials in Western Sydney.
