MANAGING EDITOR OF COMEDY, SBS

Neal Downward is the Managing Editor of Comedy at SBS and is responsible for a large percentage of the networks comedy projects for both television and online audiences. In his time at SBS he has launched the SBS Comedy website, it’s online satirical news offering ‘The Backburner’, the SBS Comedy Runway, a national initiative to create a pathway for television for emerging comedy filmmakers as well as commissioning comedy content for SBS 2 such as ‘The Wizards of Aus’ and recent film ‘Top Knot Detective’.

SBS is interested in taking pitches for unique comedy web series projects (around 6×12 minutes in length) which also have potential to packaged for appearance on SBS Viceland. Overall budget for series cannot exceed $400,000. Projects should adhere to the SBS Charter and speak to diversity and multiculturalism in Australia.
